I am currently working at Omnipresent, a fully remote, hyper growth HRtech startup. I was the first employee and have been instrumental in scaling the company from 3 to 480. I now lead engineering in the innovation team and over the last year have led the build of 3 new products. Before Omnipresent, I gained a chemistry degree at the University of Birmingham. After graduation I worked in sales for a year or so while teaching myself to code. I then worked as a software engineer at a tech consultancy (AND Digital) and worked my way up to a tech lead position where I led the initial build and release of a fintech start-up’s (Asto, a subsiduary of Santander) first web based product. This gave me the start up bug and so when Omnipresent founder, Matthew Wilson, asked me to come onboard and help build Omnipresent I didn’t think twice. I was the acting head of engineering for the first year during which I hired and managed the initial engineering team and led the engineering organisation through our seed and series A funding rounds, totalling £15million. As we scaled I moved into a technical leadership role, as the lead engineer working across 6 engineering teams. I led the design and continual iteration of the architecture of our entire platform and was the key technical point of contact during our most recent fundraise, resulting in the company raising £120 million. I spend a large amount of my spare time reading on a wide range of topics (currently epistemology, ancient history and philosophy of science). My technical leadership experience and breadth of reading has given me a unique perspective on various subjects. I aim to consolidate that knowledge and post articles on this site covering a similarly broad range of topics. Building on what I write about here I am also in the process of writing a book. It is very much in the planning stages and it’s working title is: Reality: what it is, what happens when we ignore it and how we can get closer. Most of the articles on this site are sketches of ideas that will eventually find their way into the book and as I progress I will post excerpts here. I am open to hearing about any opportunities to work with other people. For anything from coaching, advising or working on new ideas please send me an email to chrismasonfm@gmail.com.
